I have expertise in nursing that includes an advanced practice license as a Parent-Child Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and a certified Public Health Nurse. I am ANCC board-certified in Nursing Informatics and hold a post-graduate certificate in public health informatics from the University of Illinois - Chicago. In the last few years, my interest has turned to integrative / functional health care and am certified as an integrative health coach by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York, a certified Brain Trainer with the Amen Clinics, and a certified coach with the Neuroencoding Institute.
Clinical experience: I have broad clinical experiences ranging from in-patient care in Labor & Delivery, NICU, and PICU to insurance-based case management, infertility ambulatory care, and maternal-child home health and pediatric hospice care. I was privileged to be on the team that implemented California's initial statewide public health program for newborn hearing screening.
Informatics: I provide 1:1 consultation with my Gentle Tech approach to personal and business computing. I currently hold EPIC Systems certifications for the electronic healthcare record, with 13 years’ experience as a clinical systems analyst for Kaiser Permanente’s medical records system where I led surgical specialties in the development and maintenance of custom informatics solutions for documentation in the patient chart.
Teaching: I have taught nursing at all levels from vocational to graduate with an emphasis on public health and informatics nursing. I am certified as an advanced facilitator for the Southern California on ground campus of the University of Phoenix undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. My extensive experience coupled with my scholarship and abilities to communicate make me an outstanding educator of computer technologies applied to health care. My podium and paper presentations on using computer technologies in nursing and data management are enthusiastically received at local, regional, national, and international conferences.
Education: A Phi Beta Kappa graduate with a BA from USC and a BSN from Excelsior University, I earned master’s degrees from UCLA (MPH) and Azusa Pacific University (MSN), and earned my DNP from the California State University Northern Consortium at Fresno.
Author: I have been a contributing author to books on qualitative research, global nursing, and rural nursing, created online content for textbooks on maternal-newborn nursing, and served as a reviewer for Englebardt’s leading healthcare informatics text.
My varied and dynamic experience is distinctive among nurses. I enjoy discerning health care trends, then translate them into pragmatic learning opportunities, and show others how to harness these changes in clinical care for wellness.
